How to know / retrieve your National Identification Number (NIN) from your MTN, Airtel, Glo or Etisalat SIM card

The federal government of Nigeria through the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has just recently given out a directive that all SIM cards in the country must be linked to a valid National Identification Number (NIN) between now and the 31st of December 2020 or they will be blocked.
This news came pretty sudden and a whole lot of users are confused on how to go about it. In this post, I will however try to break it down a little bit. What is NIN?. National identification number, also known as NIN is the unique number you are given after you register or enroll for the National ID card.

So if you already enrolled for the national ID card before then you definitely already have an NIN number. This is sometimes written on the temporary paper slip you are given after successful registration or better still, you can also retrieve it from the phone number you used to register for your NIMC National ID card.

How to retrieve and know if your phone number is linked to your NIN
  • Just dial *346#
  • This service cost just N20 and it will show you if your SIM card is linked to your national identification number or not

If your SIM isn't linked or you have not registered at all, then it is advisable you do so as soon as possible.
