How to upgrade your OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro to Android 11 Beta Developer Preview

Its no more news that OnePlus has released the Android 11 beta Developer preview for the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. Just like last year, OnePlus is once again one of the early adopters of the new Android OS build.
This is however still an early build so bugs are almost inevitable. It's not advisable to use this Developer preview build of the Android 11 on your daily driver as it's not stable yet and it might crash or malfunction.
Below are some of the known bugs.

  • All data will be cleared while flashing the build
  • Face unlock is unavailable
  • Google Assistant ("OK Google") does not work
  • Video calling does not work
  • Certain UI screens look less than desirable
  • Some apps may not function as expected
  • System stability issues

If you however still feel like getting the early feel of the next generation Android OS, then you can follow the instructions below on how to install the beta build on your OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

How to install Android 11 Beta Developer preview on your OnePlus 8 / 8 Pro
  • Download the latest ROM zip package from the links provided below.
  • Copy the ROM zip package to your phone storage.
  • Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates.
  • Click on the top right icon, then select Local upgrade.
  • Click on the corresponding installation package -> Upgrade and wait until the System upgrade gets to 100%.
  • Once the upgrade is completed, click on Restart.
  • That's all. You have just successfully updated your device to Android 11.

Note:
  • The procedure above will wipe your device and might brick your phone, so it is advisable you understand the risk and also backup your phone before you proceed.
  • These instructions are only for the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. 
  • Make sure you plug your phone to a power outlet or charge it above 30%.
  • It is advisable to have a minimum 3GB free storage space.
  • The OnePlus 8 series carrier devices (TMO/VZW) aren't compatible with the Developer Preview builds.
