OnePlus disables PhotoChrome feature on OnePlus 8 Pro with new OxygenOS 10.5.9 update

The OnePlus 8 Pro is the latest flagship smartphone from OnePlus which was released earlier this year. One area that OnePlus users have always complained about is in terms of the camera, but the company managed to fix that this year as the camera on the device performed a lot better than previous OnePlus devices.
The rear camera on the OnePlus 8 Pro is a Quad setup which comprises of a primary 48MP main sensor, a 48MP wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto lens and a 5MP color filter lens. The color filter lens however got the least attention of all the four cameras as people didn't really get what it was meant for, but that was until people knew what the camera was capable of and that gave it a lot of media attention.

The realization by a couple of early users of the OnePlus 8 Pro that the 5MP mono color filter lens can see through some certain plastic materials lead to controversies and it raised a lot of questions which OnePlus was't ready to answer as the company released an official statement on Weibo apologizing and also promised to disable the gesture until its able to make a few changes.

Although the initial report stated that the Monochrome feature will only be disabled on HydrogenOS which is OnePlus' custom Android skin for the Chinese region only, it seems OnePlus has changed its mind and disable this feature on all of its OnePlus 8 Pro devices globally.

The most recent OxygenOS 10.5.9 update which is currently rolling out is disabling the Photo chrome color filter feature globally. This was even stated in the changelog and the company however promise to restore it back in June, but we currently don't know what changes OnePlus plan on making to the feature to make it less controversial.

At the moment, the latest Oxygen update is rolling out globally as OxygenOS 10.5.9 IN11AA and also in India as OxygenOS 10.5.9 IN11DA, we however don't know when the update will be made available for the European region. If you haven't updated yet and you wish to keep the Mono chrome camera feature, then you might want to hold back on updating for now.
