MTN Conducts First 5G Network Test in Africa with Fastest Internet Speed of 20Gbps - Set to Deploy 5G Network in Africa

The greatest thing about technology is how it always keep evolving and never stops. Latest report has it that MTN has conducted the first “5G technology and applications trial in Africa”. This recently took place at MTN's head office which is located in Johannesburg.
MTN received a temporary licence for 800MHz of spectrum in the 15GHz band to conduct its 5G trials. This is part of MTN's planned 5G network demonstration and the trial was conducted in partnership with Ericsson.

According to a statement by MTN's CTIO, Giovanni Chiarelli, he said;
“With 5G, remote healthcare through connected robots could offer world-class surgery in the most remote parts of the continent and the world. Self-driving cars could change the face of road safety, along with smart agriculture, smart mining, and smart cities,”

MTN believes that the recent test will lead to the commercial deployment of 5G technologies in the near future. The company was able to achieve a throughput of over 20Gbps with less than 5ms latency in the 5G trial, which is “the highest achieved on a mobile network in Africa”.
This is a really great development but it's funny and sad that the 4G technology in this part of the World/Continent is not even fully available yet and we already have 5G on the way.
