Dropbox Hacked And Over 68Millions Account Details Leaked Online

There have been reports that Hackers have managed to obtain login credentials of over 68 million Dropbox accounts from a known 2012 data breach where hackers accessed Dropbox’s internal systems and accessed a list of user email accounts and now those 68 million login credentials are leaked on the internet.

If you probably don't know much about Dropbox, it actually is a very popular file hosting service operated by a company known as Dropbox Incorporated. Aside the fact that Dropbox let's you upload any of your files to its cloud storage, it also has a service which allows its users to create a special folder on their PC in which Dropbox can synchronize the contents of the folder irrespective of the device you are viewing it with.

According to security expert Troy Hunt, The list of leaked dropbox accounts have been studied and have validated that account information includes emails as well as passwords. But the good thing is that those information are actually encrypted. Although dropbox claims that they had no indication that any of its user's account was illegally accesses but they have already sent out email to some of its users who may likely be affected to change their passwords.

According to the post written on Dropbox blog it states “We first heard rumors about this list two weeks ago and immediately began our investigation. We then emailed all users we believed were affected and completed a password reset for anyone who hadn’t updated their password since mid-2012.”

“This reset ensures that even if these passwords are cracked, they can’t be used to access Dropbox accounts.”

Although as i said earlier there hasn't been any proof of any drop box user's account that has been illegally accessed, but it's advisable make changes to your current password especially if you haven't updated it since 2012.
