The latest version of Apple's operating system for iPhones which is the iOS 14.5 has already started rolling out to Beta users, which means it will be available to all regular users pretty soon.

Just like with other previous iOS updates, the new iOS 14.5 comes with a couple of new features and improvements, but the biggest talking point is the better integration of Apple watch with iPhones which will make it possible for iPhone users to easily unlock their iPhones with the use of their iPhones.

Since the start of the global pandemic, the number of people wearing face masks has really increased and this has created a lot of difficulty unlocking most modern iPhones as the Face ID won't work with the mask on. So Apple has decided to introduce the Apple watch unlock which will make it possible to unlock your iPhone with face ID even with your mask on. As long as you are in iOS 14.5 + and Watch OS 7.4 +.

  • Go to Settings > Face ID&Passcode.
  • Toggle on the unlock with apple watch option.
  • Put on your Apple Watch with watchOS 7.4 and wrist detection on.
  • Unlock your Apple Watch and enable passcode.
  • Make sure you have a mask on and let Face ID detect it.
  • The Apple Watch will vibrate, notifying you that it has authenticated an iPhone unlock.
  • That's all.

Keep in mind that this feature will only work when your simply want to unlock your smartphone. 6ou will still need to take off your mask to authorize Apple Pay purchases, credit card information in Safari, or any such sensitive request.
